Synopsis/Plot
Gangster Squad is a 2013 American crime film directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Will Beall. The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, and Sean Penn. Set in 1949, the film follows a secret police unit known as the “Gangster Squad” as they try to keep the East Coast mobster Mickey Cohen from taking over Los Angeles.
The film begins with a voiceover from Mickey Cohen, a notorious mobster from New York who has recently moved to Los Angeles to take over the city. In response, Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker forms a secret unit called the “Gangster Squad” to take Cohen down. The team is led by Sgt. John O’Mara, a no-nonsense lawman from the Midwest, and his partner Sgt. Jerry Wooters, a smooth-talking ladies’ man. The team also includes Sgt. Conway Keeler, a tough-as-nails cop; Officer Max Kennard, a sharpshooter; and Officer Coleman Harris, a rookie cop.
