Synopsis/Plot
Friday is a 1995 American stoner comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, and John Witherspoon. The film follows two unemployed best friends, Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker), who must pay a local drug dealer on the same day.
The movie begins with Craig and Smokey waking up on a Friday morning, and they decide to spend the day having fun. They visit a local convenience store, where Craig is harassed by a group of neighborhood bullies. After a brief altercation, Craig and Smokey head to Smokey’s house, where they spend the day smoking marijuana and watching television.
Later that day, the two friendsrun into a local drug dealer, Big Worm (Faizon Love), who informs them that they owe him money for a drug deal they made the previous week. Craig and Smokey, who have no money, must find a way to pay off the debt or face serious consequences.
The two friends spend the rest of the day trying to come up with the money. They visit a pawn shop, attempt to get Craig’s job back, and even try to win money in a dice game. However, none of these attempts are successful. Eventually, Craig and Smokey are able to come up with the money, but not before they experience a series of humorous and dangerous misadventures.
Friday is a classic stoner comedy that is often considered a cult classic. The film was a box office success, grossing over $27 million domestically and receiving positive reviews from critics. The film spawned two sequels, Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002).
