Synopsis – What to Expect from “Freaky Friday”
Freaky Friday is a 1976 comedy film directed by Gary Nelson and starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. It tells the story of a mother and daughter who switch bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie.
Annabel Andrews (Jodie Foster) is a typical teenage girl who is frustrated with her life. She is constantly fighting with her mother, Ellen (Barbara Harris), who is a single parent and a workaholic. One day, after a particularly heated argument, Annabel and Ellen visit a Chinese restaurant for dinner. After they eat, they open a fortune cookie which reads “Today is a day of great change.”
The next morning, Annabel and Ellen wake up to find that they have switched bodies. At first, they are both horrified by the situation, but soon they realize that it might be a blessing in disguise. They both gain a newfound appreciation for each other’s lives and the struggles that they face.
Throughout the course of the day, Annabel and Ellen must navigate their new lives. Annabel must deal with her mother’s job, her friends, and her romantic interest, while Ellen must attend school and deal with Annabel’s friends. In the end, they both learn valuable lessons about themselves and their relationship.
The movie ends with Annabel and Ellen back in their own bodies, having learned a great deal from their experience. They have a newfound appreciation for each other, and their relationship is stronger than ever.
