Synopsis/Plot
Freaky Friday is a 2003 American fantasy-comedy film directed by Mark Waters and written by Heather Hach. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter, respectively, whose bodies are switched due to a mysterious fortune cookie. The film is based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Mary Rodgers, which was also made into two successful Disney films in 1976 and 1995.
The film follows the story of Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan), a rebellious 15-year-old who is constantly at odds with her mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis). After a major argument, the two visit a Chinese restaurant for dinner, where they each eat a fortune cookie. Unbeknownst to them, the cookies are enchanted, and they switch bodies.
The film follows the two as they attempt to adjust to each other’s lives. Anna must take on her mother’s responsibilities, including attending a work meeting, while Tess must attend Anna’s school and deal with her daughter’s friends. Along the way, the two learn to understand and appreciate each other better.
