Synopsis – What to Expect from “Foxfire”
Foxfire is a 1996 drama film directed by Annette Haywood-Carter. It is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name.
The story centers around a group of teenage girls in a small town in upstate New York. The girls, led by the rebellious Maddy (Hedy Burress), form a secret club called Foxfire. They bond over their shared experiences of bullying, sexism, and abuse, and they use their newfound strength to fight back against the oppressive forces of the adult world.
The girls soon find themselves in over their heads as they take on a powerful local businessman, who is trying to take over the town. The girls must use all their wits and courage to outsmart their opponent and protect their community.
At the same time, the girls must also confront the harsh realities of growing up and deal with their own personal issues. Maddy must come to terms with her abusive past, while Rita (Angelina Jolie) must come to terms with her sexuality.
The girls eventually succeed in their mission and gain a newfound respect for themselves and their community. Foxfire is a powerful and inspiring story about the strength of female friendship and the power of standing up for yourself.
