For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada is a 2012 historical drama film about the Cristero War, a religious uprising in Mexico during the 1920s. The film follows the story of a group of Mexican people who band together to fight against the oppressive government of President Plutarco ElÃas Calles.
The film begins with a brief history lesson about the Mexican Revolution and how it led to the rise of the oppressive government of President Calles. Calles has outlawed the practice of Catholicism and has ordered the arrest of priests and other religious figures. This leads to a group of Mexican people, led by Enrique Gorostieta (Andy Garcia), to form a resistance movement.
Gorostieta is a former military officer who is determined to fight for the freedom of religion. He rallies a group of men to fight against the oppressive government and they become known as the Cristeros. The group is joined by a young boy named Jose (Mauricio Kuri), who dreams of becoming a soldier and fighting for his faith.
The Cristeros fight against the oppressive government forces and gain the support of the Mexican people. However, their success is short-lived as President Calles orders a brutal campaign of persecution against the Cristeros, including torture and execution. Despite the odds, the Cristeros continue to fight for their freedom and eventually win a major victory against the oppressive government.
