Synopsis – What to Expect from “Flipper”
Flipper is a 1996 family adventure film directed by Alan Shapiro and starring Paul Hogan and Elijah Wood. It is based on the 1963 film of the same name and the 1964–1967 television series of the same name.
The film follows Sandy Ricks (Wood), a troubled and rebellious teenage boy who is sent to spend the summer with his uncle Porter Ricks (Hogan) at Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve, a wildlife sanctuary in the Florida Keys. Sandy initially has a difficult time adjusting to his new environment, but soon forms a bond with a wild dolphin he names Flipper.
Sandy’s uncle is the park ranger and is trying to keep the park and its inhabitants safe from the greedy and unscrupulous developer, Walter Kornbluth (Jonathan Banks). Kornbluth is determined to turn the park into a resort and is willing to do whatever it takes to get the land.
Sandy and Flipper team up to protect the park and its wildlife from Kornbluth’s schemes. With the help of Porter and his friend, Dr. Katie McCabe (Chelsea Field), Sandy and Flipper use their intelligence and cunning to outwit Kornbluth and his henchmen. Along the way, Sandy learns important lessons about friendship, responsibility, and the importance of protecting the environment.
In the end, Sandy and Flipper succeed in saving the park and its inhabitants, and Sandy has a newfound appreciation for the natural world
