Synopsis – What to Expect from “Flash of Genius”
Flash of Genius is a 2008 American drama film directed by Marc Abraham and starring Greg Kinnear, Lauren Graham, Alan Alda, and Dermot Mulroney. The film tells the true story of Robert Kearns (Kinnear), an engineer and college professor who invented the intermittent windshield wiper and fought a lengthy legal battle with the automotive industry to receive recognition for his invention.
The film opens with Robert Kearns (Kinnear) in a courtroom, facing off against the Ford Motor Company. He is suing them for stealing his invention of the intermittent windshield wiper. The rest of the movie then flashes back to Kearns’ life before the lawsuit.
We see Kearns as a college professor and family man living in Michigan. He is a devoted husband to his wife Phyllis (Graham) and a loving father to their six children. He is also an inventive genius, and one day he has a brilliant idea: the intermittent windshield wiper. After months of hard work, he perfects the design and takes it to the Ford Motor Company.
