Synopsis – What to Expect from “Fish Tank”
Fish Tank is a 2009 British drama film written and directed by Andrea Arnold. The story follows 15-year-old Mia (Katie Jarvis), who lives with her single mother Joanne (Kierston Wareing) and her younger sister Tyler (Rebecca Griffiths) in a deprived housing estate in Essex. Mia is a troubled and isolated teenager who spends her days exploring the local area, hanging out with her best friend, and practicing hip-hop dance.
Mia’s life takes a turn for the better when her mother brings home a new boyfriend, Connor (Michael Fassbender), who shows an interest in Mia and her dancing. Mia’s relationship with Connor develops, and she begins to open up to him, revealing her dreams of becoming a dancer.
However, Mia soon discovers that Connor is not all he seems, and her relationship with him begins to take a darker turn. She finds out that he has been seeing other women and is not the person she thought he was. This leads to a confrontation between Mia and Joanne, and Mia is further pushed away from her family.
Mia’s life spirals out of control as she embarks on a destructive path of self-destruction. She begins to drink and take drugs, and her relationship with her friends and family deteriorates. Her dancing also takes a backseat as she finds herself in increasingly dangerous situations.
