Synopsis/Plot
Field of Dreams is a 1989 American fantasy-drama sports film directed by Phil Alden Robinson and starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster in his final film role.
The film follows Ray Kinsella, an Iowa farmer who hears a mysterious voice telling him to build a baseball field on his farm. He follows the instructions, and the field becomes a place where the ghosts of great baseball players come to play. Ray’s relationship with his father, who was a baseball fan, is explored as he attempts to understand the meaning of the mysterious voice.
The film was a commercial success, grossing over $84 million in the United States, and is widely considered to be one of the best baseball films of all time. It has also been praised for its positive portrayal of family relationships, and its exploration of the power of dreams.
The film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won the 1989 Academy Award for Best Original Score. It has since become a cult classic, and its iconic phrase “If you build it, he will come” has become part of popular culture.
