Synopsis/Plot
Fargo is a 1996 crime drama film written, produced, and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The film stars Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson, a pregnant police chief from Brainerd, Minnesota who investigates a series of homicides related to a failed kidnapping plot.
The story begins with Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), an unhappy car salesman who is desperate for money. He hires two criminals, Carl Showalter (Steve Buscemi) and Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare), to kidnap his wife in exchange for a large ransom, which he plans to use to pay off his debts.
The plan goes awry when Grimsrud kills a state trooper and the kidnappers end up with more money than they were expecting. Meanwhile, Marge Gunderson discovers the crime and begins to investigate. She discovers that Jerry was behind the kidnapping and is able to track down the criminals.
In the end, Marge is able to apprehend the criminals and recover the ransom money. She also discovers that Jerry was behind the entire plot and is able to get him arrested.
