Synopsis – What to Expect from “Fantastic Voyage”
Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 science fiction film directed by Richard Fleischer and starring Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O’Brien, and Donald Pleasence. The film follows a team of scientists who are shrunk to microscopic size and injected into the body of a scientist in order to save his life.
The film opens with a scientist, Dr. Jan Benes (O’Brien), being attacked by an unknown assailant. He is critically injured and is taken to a secret government facility where he is placed in a coma. The only way to save him is to shrink a team of scientists to microscopic size and inject them into his body, where they can repair the damage done to his brain.
The team consists of Dr. Michaels (Boyd), a brilliant scientist; Cora (Welch), a medical doctor; and Professor Stein (Pleasence), a Nobel Prize-winning scientist. They are shrunk to microscopic size and injected into Benes’ body.
Once inside, the team must navigate their way through Benes’ body, facing various obstacles and dangers such as the white blood cells that attack them, and a clot that nearly kills them. They eventually make it to the brain, where they find the source of the injury. They must repair the damage before the miniaturization process wears off, or they will be stuck inside Benes’ body forever.
