Synopsis – What to Expect from “Fair Game”
Fair Game is a 2010 American action thriller film starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.
The film tells the true story of Valerie Plame, a CIA operative whose identity was revealed by the Bush administration in 2003. Plame’s career and marriage are put in jeopardy when her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, publicly challenges the Bush administration’s claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
The film begins with Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) leading a successful career as a CIA operative. She is married to former Ambassador Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), and the two have a comfortable life in Washington D.C. with their son.
When Joe is asked to investigate claims that Iraq is trying to acquire uranium from Niger, he uncovers evidence that the claims are false. He writes an op-ed in the New York Times calling out the Bush administration for its false claims.
In retaliation, the Bush administration reveals Valerie’s identity as a CIA operative, putting her career and marriage in jeopardy. Valerie is forced to resign from the CIA and is unable to work in her field. Joe and Valerie’s marriage is strained as Joe struggles to cope with the political fallout of his actions.
Valerie is determined to fight back and discovers that the Bush administration violated the Intelligence Identities Protection Act in revealing her identity. She and Joe decide to take on the Bush administration and sue them for violating the law.
The film follows Valerie and Joe’s legal battle
