Synopsis/Plot
Escape from Pretoria is a thrilling drama based on the true story of two white South African activists, Tim Jenkin and Stephen Lee, who were imprisoned in the notorious Pretoria Maximum Security Prison in 1978 for distributing anti-apartheid pamphlets. The movie follows the two men as they devise a daring escape plan with the help of a fellow inmate, Denis Goldberg.
The movie begins with Tim and Stephen being sentenced to twelve years in prison for their anti-apartheid activities. Despite the harsh conditions and the constant surveillance, the two men are determined to find a way out. With the help of Denis, they begin to construct two wooden keys that will unlock the prison’s cells.
The three men then begin to build a makeshift ladder to reach the prison’s roof. With the help of a sympathetic guard, they are able to smuggle in tools and materials to complete their plan. After months of hard work, they are finally able to make their escape, but they must still face the challenges of navigating their way through the city and avoiding detection from the police.
