Synopsis/Plot
End of the Road is a 1970 drama film directed by Aram Avakian and starring Stacy Keach, James Earl Jones, and Harris Yulin. Set in a small rural town in the American South, the film follows a young drifter, Jacob Horner (Keach), who arrives in town and causes a stir among the locals. Jacob is an enigmatic figure who is desperate to find a place to call home. He finds work at the local gas station and quickly befriends the eccentric locals, including the town’s doctor, Dr. Davenport (Jones).
Jacob soon develops a romantic relationship with a young woman, Mary (Dorothy Tristan), who is also a drifter. However, their relationship is complicatedby the fact that Mary is already married and has a young daughter. As their relationship progresses, Jacob begins to realize that he may not be able to stay in the town forever and must eventually move on.
The townspeople, including Dr. Davenport, try to help Jacob find his place in the world and ultimately accept him as one of their own. However, Jacob’s past catches up to him and he is forced to confront his demons and come to terms with his own identity. In the end, Jacob must make a difficult decision about his future and whether to stay in the town or move on.
