Synopsis – What to Expect from “Elvis & Nixon”
Elvis & Nixon is a 2016 American comedy-drama film directed by Liza Johnson and written by Joey Sagal, Hanala Sagal, and Cary Elwes. The film stars Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley and Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon, and chronicles the true story of the two men’s meeting at the White House in 1970.
The film begins in the summer of 1970. Elvis Presley (Michael Shannon) is living in Memphis, Tennessee and is feeling restless and unfulfilled. He decides to take a road trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey). Along the way, Elvis meets Jerry Schilling (Alex Pettyfer), an old friend who joins him on the journey.
When they arrive in Washington, Elvis and Jerry meet up with Nixon’s aide, Egil Krogh (Colin Hanks), and are taken to the White House. After some initial hesitation, Nixon agrees to meet with Elvis. During their meeting, Elvis presents Nixon with a gift of a Colt 45 handgun and a World War II medal, and requests that he be made a “Federal Agent at Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Nixon agrees, and the two men take a picture together.
The film then follows Elvis and Jerry as they return to Memphis. Along the way, they discuss Elvis’ newfound sense of purpose and his plans to use his newfound position to help fight drug
