Synopsis/Plot
Eastern Promises is a 2007 British-Canadian crime thriller directed by David Cronenberg and starring Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel, and Armin Mueller-Stahl. The film follows a midwife (Watts) who discovers a Russian-language diary among the possessions of a teenage girl who dies during childbirth. Her investigation leads her to a dangerous Russian-British crime syndicate.
The story begins in London, where midwife Anna (Watts) attends the birth of a baby girl to a teenage girl who dies during childbirth. Anna discovers a diary in the girl’s belongings, written in Russian. She decides to investigate further, and discovers that the girl was a member of a Russian-British crime syndicate. She meets two of the syndicate’s members, Kirill (Cassel) and his uncle Semyon (Mueller-Stahl). Kirill is the son of Semyon, who is the head of the family.
Kirill is violent and cruel, and Anna soon realizes that he is a dangerous man. She also discovers that the diary contains information about the syndicate’s activities, and she is determined to uncover the truth. She is aided by Nikol
