Synopsis/Plot
Easter Parade is a classic musical comedy starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. Set in New York City in the 1920s, the film follows Don Hewes (Astaire), a vaudeville entertainer who is dumped by his showbiz partner Nadine Hale (Ann Miller). In a fit of pique, Don challenges Nadine to find a new partner and replace him in their upcoming Easter parade. Don then sets out to find a new partner, eventually settling on Hannah Brown (Garland), a spirited chorus girl. Despite their initial differences, the two develop a strong bond and begin to rehearse for the Easter parade.
Along the way, Don and Hannah encounter a number of colorful characters, including the sassy Madeline (Cyd Charisse), the jilted Johnny (Peter Lawford), and the cantankerous millionaire Jonathan Harrow III (Jules Munshin). The film features a number of memorable musical numbers, including “It Only Happens When I Dance With You” and “A Fella With An Umbrella,” both of which were performed by Astaire and Garland.
