Synopsis – What to Expect from “Earthquake”
Earthquake is a 1974 American disaster film directed and produced by Mark Robson. The film stars Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Lorne Greene, and Marjoe Gortner.
The story begins in Los Angeles, California. A series of small earthquakes have been occurring in the area and seismologists warn that a major earthquake is coming. Meanwhile, Stewart Graff (Charlton Heston) is a successful engineer who is in the process of divorcing his wife Remy (Ava Gardner). He is also having an affair with Denise Marshall (Geneviève Bujold), a seismologist.
When the major earthquake finally hits, the city is thrown into chaos. Stewart is separated from his family and the two women in his life, and must find a way to survive the destruction. He teams up with a former fireman, Sam (George Kennedy), and together they search the rubble for survivors.
In the midst of the chaos, Stewart discovers that his estranged wife and her new lover have been killed in the quake. He is also reunited with Denise, who has been severely injured. Stewart and Sam eventually find Stewart’s daughter, who has been trapped in a building.
The film ends with Stewart and his daughter being rescued from the rubble and reunited with Denise. The trio then looks out upon the ruined city, reflecting on the tragedy that has befallen them.
