Synopsis – What to Expect from “Dying of the Light”
Dying of the Light is a 2014 psychological thriller directed by Paul Schrader and starring Nicolas Cage and Anton Yelchin. The story follows Evan Lake (Cage), a veteran CIA agent who is nearing retirement. He has been suffering from a degenerative neurological disorder, which has been slowly robbing him of his memories and his ability to think and reason.
Lake is determined to complete one last mission before he is forced to retire – to capture and kill the terrorist Abu Sahim (Alexander Karim), who was responsible for the death of Lake’s former partner. Lake sets out on a dangerous journey to a remote corner of the world to find Sahim and bring him to justice.
Along the way, Lake is faced with a series of obstacles, including the fact that he is rapidly losing his mental faculties and his physical strength. He also finds himself in a situation where his CIA superiors are not willing to provide him with any support, and in fact are actively trying to stop him from completing his mission.
Lake must rely on his own wits and determination to survive and complete his mission, even as his body and mind begin to fail him. With his mission in sight, Lake must push himself to the brink of his own mortality in order to bring Sahim to justice.
