Synopsis – What to Expect from “Dutch”
Dutch is a 1991 American comedy-drama film directed by Peter Faiman and starring Ed O’Neill, Ethan Embry, and JoBeth Williams.
The film follows Dutch Dooley (O’Neill), a blue-collar worker from Pennsylvania who is hired to drive his girlfriend, Natalie (Williams), to her wealthy family’s estate in the South. Dutch is a good-natured, street-smart guy, but he has a hard time fitting in with Natalie’s upper-class family.
Natalie’s brother, Doyle (Embry), is a spoiled rich kid who takes an instant dislike to Dutch. He challenges Dutch to a series of competitions, including a game of horseshoes, a race around the estate, and a shooting contest. Dutch wins each of these contests, but Doyle refuses to accept defeat.
Meanwhile, Dutch and Natalie’s relationship begins to blossom, and Dutch finds himself falling for her. However, her family disapproves of their relationship and tries to keep them apart.
When Dutch’s past catches up with him, he must confront his own insecurities and prove to the family that he is worthy of Natalie’s love. In the end, Dutch must overcome his own doubts and prove to the family that he is a worthy suitor.
