Synopsis/Plot
Drumline is a 2002 American musical drama film directed by Charles Stone III. The film follows Devon Miles, a talented drummer from Harlem who enrolls in a college marching band to prove himself to his family, friends, and school.
Devon is a talented street drummer from Harlem, New York who is accepted into a historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia on a full scholarship. He is recruited by the school’s marching band director, Dr. Lee, to join the school’s marching band, the “Marching Maroon and White”. Devon is initially met with resistance from the other members of the band, especially the leader of the drumline, Sean.
Devon must prove himself to the band and to his family, as he struggles to fit in with the other band members and to find his place in the band. He eventually earns the respect of the band and is able to lead them to success in the annual “Battle of the Bands” competition. Along the way, Devon learns the importance of teamwork and the power of music.
