Synopsis – What to Expect from “Drowning Mona”
Drowning Mona is a dark comedy released in 2000 that follows the story of a small town’s reaction to the mysterious death of the town’s least liked resident, Mona Dearly.
The story begins with Mona Dearly, a rude and obnoxious woman who is despised by the entire town of Verplanck, New York. Mona is a regular at the local bar, where she often harasses the other patrons.
One night, Mona is found dead in her car at the bottom of a lake. The townspeople are initially relieved by her death, but soon become suspicious when it is revealed that Mona was murdered.
The townspeople begin to suspect each other of Mona’s murder, and the local police chief, Wyatt Rash, is tasked with finding the killer. As he investigates, Wyatt discovers that nearly everyone in town had a motive to kill Mona.
He soon finds himself in a web of lies and deceit as he attempts to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, the townspeople are busy pointing fingers and trying to protect their own secrets.
The story culminates in a surprising twist that reveals the true killer. In the end, the town learns an important lesson about judging others and the consequences of their actions.
