Synopsis/Plot
Driving Miss Daisy is a 1989 American drama film directed by Bruce Beresford and written by Alfred Uhry. It stars Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy, and Dan Aykroyd. The film tells the story of an elderly Jewish widow named Daisy Werthan (Tandy) and her relationship with her African-American chauffeur, Hoke Colburn (Freeman), over a 25-year period.
The story begins in 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia. Daisy, a wealthy Jewish widow, is determined to maintain her independence despite her age. When she accidentally backs her car into a neighbor’s fence, her son Boolie (Aykroyd) decides to hire a chauffeur for her. He selects Hoke, an African-American man who has recently been laid off from his job. Despite initial tension between the two, Daisy and Hoke develop a strong bond over the years.
Throughout the film, we witness the changing relationship between Daisy and Hoke as they face the challenges of the civil rights movement. As Daisy begins to accept Hoke as a friend, she defends him against the racism of her friends and family. Hoke, in turn, shows immense patience and loyalty to Daisy
