Synopsis – What to Expect from “Dressed to Kill”
Dressed to Kill is a 1946 film noir crime drama directed by Robert Wise and starring Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, and Patricia Morison. Set in the 1940s, the story revolves around a wealthy businessman, John Marlowe (Rathbone), who is being blackmailed by a mysterious figure. Marlowe hires a private detective, Philip Holmes (Bruce), to investigate the blackmailer, but soon finds himself in a web of intrigue and danger.
The story begins when Marlowe receives a letter from the blackmailer, threatening to expose his past misdeeds if he does not pay up. Marlowe hires Holmes to investigate the blackmailer, and the two quickly discover that the blackmailer is an ex-convict named Tony (Morison). Tony is in possession of a stolen diamond necklace, and Marlowe is convinced that it is the key to his blackmailer’s identity.
Holmes and Marlowe follow Tony to a nightclub, where they witness a heated argument between Tony and a mysterious woman. The woman is later revealed to be Marlowe’s former lover, Elisabeth (Morison). It is revealed that Tony is Elisabeth’s brother, and that he was recently released from prison.
Holmes and Marlowe follow Tony and Elisabeth to a deserted warehouse, where they find Tony dead. They soon discover that Elisabeth was responsible for Tony’s death, and that she was
