Synopsis/Plot
Donnie Brasco is a 1997 crime drama starring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. The film follows the story of an undercover FBI agent, Joe Pistone (Depp), who infiltrates the mafia in the late 1970s by assuming the identity of a jewel thief named Donnie Brasco. With the help of his partner, Lefty Ruggiero (Pacino), Pistone is able to gain the trust of the mob and gain access to the inner workings of the mafia. As the investigation progresses, Pistone finds himself becoming increasingly close to his contacts, including Lefty, whom he views as a father figure. As Pistone’s loyalty to the mafia grows, he is forced to make a difficult choice between his loyalty to the FBI and the loyalty he has developed for the mob. The film is a tense and gripping look at the duality of loyalty and betrayal in organized crime.
