Synopsis/Plot
Dolemite Is My Name is a 2019 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Craig Brewer and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. It stars Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore, a struggling comedian and singer who achieves fame in the 1970s by performing a character called Dolemite.
The film follows Moore’s journey from an unemployed record store clerk to a successful stand-up comedian and blaxploitation star. After years of failed attempts to make it in show business, Moore creates the character Dolemite, an outrageous pimp with a unique style of rhyming and outrageous stories. Moore’s Dolemite character soon becomes a hit in the local nightclubs and he soon finds himself a star of his own blaxploitation films.
The film also stars Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Wesley Snipes. It follows Moore’s journey as he works to make his own feature-length film, Dolemite. The film follows Moore as he assembles a ragtag crew, including a director, a cinematographer, and a production designer, to bring his vision to life
