Synopsis/Plot
Doctor Zhivago is a 1965 British-Italian epic romantic drama film directed by David Lean. It is set in Russia between the years prior to World War I and the Russian Civil War of 1917–1922 and is based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Boris Pasternak. The film stars Omar Sharif in the title role as Yuri Zhivago, a physician and poet, and Julie Christie as his love interest Lara Antipova. The supporting cast includes Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Alec Guinness, Tom Courtenay, Ralph Richardson, Siobhán McKenna, and Rita Tushingham.
The story follows the life of Yuri Zhivago, a physician and poet, as he is torn between his love for two women, Lara and Tonya, and his own ideals, while the Russian Revolution rages around him. It chronicles the impact of the Russian Revolution and the subsequent Civil War on the lives of Zhivago and his friends and family.
The film was a critical and commercial success, and received ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. It won five, including Best Adapted Screenplay
