Synopsis/Plot
Disobedience is a 2017 British romantic drama film directed by Sebastián Lelio. The film stars Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, and Alessandro Nivola.
The movie follows the story of Ronit Krushka (Weisz), a woman living in New York City who returns to her Orthodox Jewish community in North London after the death of her estranged father. Ronit’s return causes a stir in the community, as she had been exiled years before for her forbidden relationship with Esti Kuperman (McAdams), the wife of her cousin Dovid Kuperman (Nivola). Despite the disapproval of their families and the community, Ronit and Esti rekindle their passionate romance.
The film explores the themes of religious repression, forbidden love, and the struggle to be true to oneself.
