Synopsis/Plot
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a 1988 comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. The film follows two con men, Freddy Benson (Steve Martin) and Lawrence Jamieson (Michael Caine). Freddy is a small-time con artist who has come to the French Riviera to make his fortune. Lawrence is a sophisticated and suave con artist who has been living in the area for years and is the master of the art of the con.
When Freddy arrives, he tries to con Lawrence by pretending to be a wealthy American oil magnate. Lawrence quickly sees through the ruse and challenges Freddy to a bet. He proposes that the two of them compete to see who can con the most money out of a wealthy heiress, Christine Colgate (Glenne Headly). If Freddy wins, he gets to stay on the Riviera; if Lawrence wins, Freddy has to leave.
The two men set out to con Christine, each using their own unique methods. Lawrence pretends to be a British aristocrat, while Freddy poses as a European prince. They soon find themselves in a battle of wits as they both try to outsmart each other and win the bet.
