Synopsis – What to Expect from “Dillinger”
Dillinger is a 1973 American biographical crime film directed by John Milius and starring Warren Oates as the notorious bank robber John Dillinger.
The film follows the life of John Dillinger, a notorious bank robber during the Great Depression. After being released from prison, Dillinger teams up with his old gang and embarks on a crime spree that takes them from Indiana to Arizona. Along the way, they rob banks, engage in shootouts with police, and elude the FBI, led by Melvin Purvis (Ben Johnson).
The film also showcases Dillinger’s relationship with Billie Frechette (Michelle Phillips), a woman he meets while on the run. Despite the danger he’s in, Dillinger is determined to make something of himself and prove that he can live a life of luxury.
As the FBI closes in, Dillinger is forced to make a daring escape. He and his gang plan a daring raid on a police station in order to get guns and ammunition. After a violent shootout, Dillinger and his gang escape, but not before being pursued by the FBI.
Eventually, Dillinger is betrayed by one of his own men and is captured by the FBI. He is sentenced to death and is executed in an electric chair. The film ends with a montage of Dillinger’s life and death, showing how his life of crime came to an end.
