Synopsis – What to Expect from “Desperately Seeking Susan”

Desperately Seeking Susan is a 1985 romantic comedy starring Rosanna Arquette and Madonna. The story follows Roberta (Arquette), a bored New Jersey housewife who is desperate for a change in her life. When she sees a personal ad in the newspaper placed by a woman named Susan (Madonna), she begins to follow her around and fantasize about living her life.

Meanwhile, Susan is in the middle of a romantic and criminal adventure of her own. She is trying to retrieve a mysterious pair of earrings that were stolen from her by her ex-boyfriend, Jim (Robert Joy). In order to do this, she has to enlist the help of a shady character named Dez (Aidan Quinn).

As Roberta follows Susan around, she becomes more and more entranced by her life. She eventually takes on Susan’s identity and begins to live her life as if it were her own. This leads to a series of misadventures as Roberta is mistaken for Susan and gets involved in Susan’s criminal activities.

Eventually, Roberta and Susan team up to find the earrings and get out of their respective messes. Along the way, they both learn valuable lessons about themselves and discover the power of friendship. In the end, Roberta finds a new appreciation for her own life and decides to stay in New Jersey.
