Synopsis – What to Expect from “Desk Set”
Desk Set is a romantic comedy released in 1957 starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. The movie follows the story of Bunny Watson, a sharp-witted and efficient research librarian at a television network. She and her team of research librarians are responsible for providing the network’s writers with all the information they need for their shows.
When a new computer system is installed at the network, Bunny and her team are threatened with redundancy. The new computer system is run by Richard Sumner, a computer expert hired by the network to oversee the new system. Despite Richard’s best efforts to explain the new system to Bunny and her team, Bunny is skeptical and resistant to the idea of the new computer system.
When Bunny and Richard start to get to know each other better, they begin to develop a romantic relationship. However, Bunny is still resistant to the idea of the new computer system and is determined to prove to Richard and the network that her team of librarians are still needed.
In the end, Bunny manages to prove to Richard and the network that the librarians are still needed and that the computer system should be used to supplement their work, rather than replace them. The movie ends with Bunny and Richard happily together and the librarians still employed at the network.
