Synopsis/Plot
Denial is a 2016 British-American biographical drama film directed by Mick Jackson and written by David Hare, based on the book Denial: Holocaust History on Trial by Deborah E. Lipstadt.
The film stars Rachel Weisz as Lipstadt, a Jewish-American historian who is sued for libel when she publicly accuses Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall) of distorting evidence and manipulating facts to serve his own agenda. The film follows Lipstadt as she navigates the court proceedings in the United Kingdom, where the burden of proof is on the accused and the stakes are high.
The film is a powerful exploration of the importance of truth and justice, as Lipstadt and her legal team battle to prove the truth of the Holocaust and its victims. Weisz gives an outstanding performance as Lipstadt, a woman who is determined to stand up for the truth and the victims of the Holocaust, despite the personal and professional cost.
The film also stars Tom Wilkinson as Richard Rampton, Lipstadt’s lawyer, and Andrew Scott as Anthony Julius, Rampton’s junior lawyer. The film is an emotional journey as Lipstadt and her legal team fight to prove the truth of the Holocaust and its
