Synopsis – What to Expect from “Deathtrap”
Deathtrap is a 1982 American thriller film directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, and Dyan Cannon. The film follows a playwright and his wife’s attempts to come up with a successful Broadway play.
The film opens with Sidney Bruhl (Michael Caine), a once successful Broadway playwright, now struggling to come up with a new play. His wife Myra (Dyan Cannon) suggests he read a script written by a former student of his, Clifford Anderson (Christopher Reeve). Sidney is impressed by the script and decides to invite Clifford to his and Myra’s home in Connecticut to work on the script and turn it into a successful Broadway play.
When Clifford arrives, Sidney quickly realizes that he is in over his head and decides to take advantage of Clifford’s naivete and steal his script. He devises a plan to lure Clifford into a deathtrap, killing him and making it look like an accident. He enlists the help of his lawyer, Porter Milgrim (Ivan Boesky), to help him carry out the plan.
Meanwhile, Clifford begins to suspect that something is amiss and starts to investigate Sidney’s past. He finds out that Sidney has been involved in a number of suspicious activities, including the death of a former playwright. Clifford also discovers that Sidney and Myra are having an affair.
The tension builds as Clifford confronts Sidney and Myra with his findings. In
