Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid is a 1982 American neo-noir black comedy film directed by Carl Reiner and starring Steve Martin and Rachel Ward.
The film follows private detective Rigby Reardon (Steve Martin) as he investigates the mysterious death of Juliet Forrest (Rachel Ward), a wealthy heiress. With the help of his assistant, Reardon pieces together clues from classic film noir movies, including a few starring Juliet’s father, to uncover the truth.
Reardon soon discovers that Juliet’s death was no accident, but a murder orchestrated by her stepmother, Dr. Lorelei Adare (Reni Santoni). With the help of a mysterious figure (George Gaynes), Reardon discovers a sinister plot involving a counterfeiting ring and a powerful crime boss named Max Von Sternberg (John Houseman).
Reardon must use all his wit and detective skills to outwit the criminals and bring justice to Juliet’s killer. Along the way, he also finds love with the beautiful and mysterious Lola (Barbara Carrera).
