Synopsis/Plot
Dead Man Walking is a 1995 drama directed by Tim Robbins and starring Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon. The movie follows the story of Matthew Poncelet (Penn), a death row inmate in Louisiana who is awaiting execution for the rape and murder of a teenage couple. Sister Helen Prejean (Sarandon), a Catholic nun, is assigned to be his spiritual adviser and visits him in prison. Through her visits, she begins to understand the circumstances that led to his crime and comes to believe that he may be innocent.
As Sister Helen and Matthew’s relationship grows, she begins to question the morality of capital punishment and begins to fight for his life. Meanwhile, Matthew is struggling with his guilt and the reality of his impending death. He also finds solace in his friendship with a fellow inmate, who helps him to come to terms with his past and find peace in his final days.
