Synopsis – What to Expect from “Danny Collins”
Danny Collins is a heartwarming comedy-drama about the power of second chances. Danny Collins (Al Pacino) is an aging rock star who has been living off the fame of his one hit song for decades. After receiving a letter from John Lennon written to him 40 years earlier, Danny is inspired to change his life and make amends with the people he has hurt along the way.
Danny decides to move out of his luxurious lifestyle in Los Angeles and check into a small hotel in New Jersey. He hopes to reconnect with his long-lost son, Tom (Bobby Cannavale), and make up for all the time they have missed together.
Upon arriving in New Jersey, Danny meets and falls in love with the hotel manager, Mary (Annette Bening). Mary is a single mother of two who has a strained relationship with her daughter, Hope (Katie Holmes). Danny attempts to mend the broken relationship between Mary and Hope, while also trying to build a relationship with his son.
Tom is resistant to Danny’s attempts to reconnect, still holding a grudge over his father’s neglect. Danny and Mary’s relationship is also tested when Tom’s mother (Jennifer Garner) arrives to try and reconcile with her son. As Danny and Mary’s relationship grows, Danny begins to realize the importance of family and the power of second chances.
