Synopsis – What to Expect from “Crimes and Misdemeanors”
Crimes and Misdemeanors is a 1989 comedy-drama directed by Woody Allen.
The movie follows the intertwined stories of two men in New York City.
The first is Judah Rosenthal (Martin Landau), a successful ophthalmologist who is married to a wealthy socialite. Judah is having an affair with a much younger woman, Dolores (Anjelica Huston). When Dolores threatens to expose the affair, Judah decides to have her killed.
The second story follows Cliff Stern (Woody Allen), a documentary filmmaker who is struggling to make his latest project. Cliff is in love with his brother’s fiancée, Halley (Mia Farrow), and despite his best efforts, he can’t seem to win her heart.
The two stories intersect when Judah hires a private investigator, Lester (Alan Alda), to track down Dolores. Lester is also working on Cliff’s documentary, and the two men become friends.
As the movie progresses, Judah is wracked with guilt over his crime and attempts to make amends. Meanwhile, Cliff learns to accept his feelings for Halley and finds a way to move forward with his life.
In the end, Judah is able to find peace and redemption, while Cliff finally finds the courage to pursue his dreams. Crimes and Misdemeanors is a powerful story of love, guilt, and redemption.
