Synopsis – What to Expect from “Conviction”
Conviction is a 2010 American biographical legal drama film directed by Tony Goldwyn. The film stars Hilary Swank as Betty Anne Waters, a single mother who goes to law school in order to represent her wrongfully convicted brother, Kenny (Sam Rockwell).
The film begins with Kenny being sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a young woman in Massachusetts. Betty Anne is determined to prove her brother’s innocence and gain his freedom. She works two jobs and attends law school, eventually graduating with honors. With the help of her friend and mentor, Abra Rice (Minnie Driver), Betty Anne works to overturn Kenny’s conviction by gathering evidence to prove his innocence.
Over the course of the film, Betty Anne and Abra uncover evidence that suggests Kenny may have been wrongfully convicted. They also discover that the prosecutor in Kenny’s case, Assistant District Attorney Nancy Taylor (Melissa Leo), withheld evidence that could have exonerated Kenny. With the help of a team of lawyers and experts, Betty Anne works to prove her brother’s innocence.
After a long and arduous battle, Betty Anne is finally able to prove that Kenny is innocent. The film ends with Kenny being released from prison and reunited with his family. Betty Anne is praised for her perseverance and dedication to seeking justice for her brother.
