Synopsis – What to Expect from “Control”
Control is the story of Ian Curtis (Sam Riley), a young man from Macclesfield, England, who is struggling to find his place in the world. He is a singer in a band called Joy Division, and he is trying to make it in the music industry, but he is also dealing with depression, a failing marriage, and a growing sense of alienation from the world around him.
The film follows Curtis’ journey from a shy, introverted young man to a rock star, and then his eventual decline into depression and suicide. It explores the pressures of fame and the struggles of a young artist trying to find his place in the world.
The film begins with Curtis’ first band, Warsaw, and follows him as he transitions into Joy Division. He quickly gains popularity and the band starts to tour, but Curtis is struggling with his mental health and the pressures of fame. His wife, Deborah (Samantha Morton), is supportive but increasingly frustrated with his behavior.
The film follows the band’s rise to fame, and Curtis’ struggles with his mental health. He attempts to cope with his depression through alcohol and drugs, and he begins to have an affair with a Belgian journalist, Annik Honore (Alexandra Maria Lara). Meanwhile, Joy Division’s music is gaining more and more attention, and Curtis is increasingly overwhelmed by the pressures of fame.
The film culminates in Curtis’ suicide, and the band’s subsequent
