Synopsis/Plot
Compulsion is a 1959 American crime drama film directed by Richard Fleischer and starring Orson Welles, Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman. The film is based on the 1956 novel of the same name by Meyer Levin, which was inspired by the Leopold and Loeb murder case of 1924. It follows two wealthy law school students, Artie Strauss (Stockwell) and Judd Steiner (Dillman), who become obsessed with committing the perfect crime. The two kidnap and murder a young boy, and attempt to evade capture by the police.
The film begins with Artie and Judd discussing the possibility of committing the perfect crime. Artie is intrigued by the idea, while Judd is more hesitant. After much deliberation, they finally decide to kidnap and murder a young boy. As they carry out their plan, they become increasingly paranoid and desperate to avoid capture.
Meanwhile, a celebrated attorney, Jonathan Wilk (Welles), is hired to defend the boys. Wilk is a brilliant lawyer, but he is also a troubled man. He has a history of mental illness, and is deeply troubled by his own past. Wilk is determined to prove the boys’ innocence, but his efforts are complicated
