Synopsis/Plot
Coming to America is a 1988 American romantic comedy film directed by John Landis and starring Eddie Murphy. The film follows Prince Akeem of Zamunda, who travels to the United States in the hopes of finding a woman he can marry.
The film opens with Akeem, the crown prince of the fictional African nation of Zamunda, celebrating his 21st birthday. He is expected to marry a woman of royal blood, chosen for him by his parents, the King and Queen of Zamunda. Akeem is not interested in an arranged marriage, so he and his best friend Semmi travel to the United States in search of a bride.
They arrive in Queens, New York, and rent an apartment in the neighborhood of Long Island City. They disguise themselves as poor immigrants, and Akeem takes a job at a local fast food restaurant called McDowell’s. While working there, Akeem meets and falls in love with Lisa, a local woman.
Meanwhile, Akeem’s parents hire a royal adviser to find their son and bring him back to Zamunda. Akeem and Lisa must find a way to stay together and keep Akeem’s true identity a secret.
