Synopsis – What to Expect from “Columbus”
Columbus is a drama film released in 2017, directed by Kogonada and starring John Cho, Haley Lu Richardson, and Parker Posey.
The film follows Jin (John Cho), a Korean-American man, as he travels to Columbus, Indiana, to take care of his ailing father. While there, he meets Casey (Haley Lu Richardson), a young woman who is stuck in her hometown and has ambitions of leaving and attending architecture school. Despite their differences, the two find an unlikely bond through their shared love of architecture and the city of Columbus.
Jin and Casey explore the city together, visiting its many architectural wonders, and soon find themselves growing closer. As they get to know each other better, they begin to open up about their pasts and their dreams. Jin reveals his struggles with his father’s illness, and Casey talks about her desire to leave Columbus and pursue her dreams.
The two soon form a strong bond, and as they share their stories, they help each other to come to terms with their pasts and find hope for the future. But when Casey’s mother returns to town, their relationship is put to the test. Will they be able to stay together despite their differences, or will their dreams take them in different directions?
Columbus is a beautiful and heartfelt story about two people finding each other in the most unexpected of places and learning to embrace life and love despite their differences.
