Synopsis/Plot

Colonia is a 2015 German-Luxembourgish-French historical thriller film directed by Florian Gallenberger. The film stars Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl as a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973.

Lena (Emma Watson) is a young German woman living in Chile in 1973. She is in a relationship with Daniel (Daniel Brühl), a young German-Chilean journalist. When Daniel is arrested by the military after the coup led by General Pinochet, Lena is determined to find him. She tracks him to Colonia Dignidad, a mysterious cult-like commune led by a former Nazi doctor, Paul Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist).

Lena infiltrates the commune and discovers that it is a place of torture and brainwashing. She must find a way to save Daniel before he is broken by the cult’s cruel methods. With the help of a sympathetic guard, she devises a daring plan to escape with Daniel and expose the truth about Colonia Dignidad.
