Synopsis – What to Expect from “Coda”
Coda is a heartfelt and inspiring drama set in the beautiful fishing village of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
The story follows Ruby (Emilia Jones), a teenage girl who is the only remaining member of her family’s fishing business. Her father, Henry (Troy Kotsur), is a hardworking fisherman who has been struggling to make ends meet, while her mother, Diane (Marlee Matlin), has been suffering from a terminal illness.
When Henry is forced to sell the family boat, Ruby is determined to save it and revive the business. With the help of her music teacher, Mrs. V (Oscar winner Marlee Matlin), Ruby discovers a hidden passion for singing and decides to compete in a local singing competition in order to win the money needed to save the boat.
But as Ruby begins to find success in the competition, her mother’s health begins to deteriorate. With her mother’s time running out, Ruby must find a way to balance her dreams with her family’s needs.
As Ruby continues to pursue her singing career, she discovers that music can be a powerful way to express her feelings. With the help of Mrs. V and her newfound friends, Ruby finds the courage to fight for her dreams and her family’s future.
