Synopsis/Plot
Cloud Atlas is a science fiction film directed by Tom Tykwer, Lana Wachowski, and Andy Wachowski. It is based on the 2004 novel of the same name by David Mitchell. The film follows six different storylines, each set in a different time period and geographical location, with the characters in each storyline being played by the same actors.
The film begins in the 1800s with a young lawyer, Adam Ewing, in the Pacific Islands. He is on a journey to return home to San Francisco, and he encounters a mysterious doctor who has a mysterious agenda. Meanwhile, in 1936, a young musician, Robert Frobisher, embarks on an affair with a married woman in Europe.
In 1973, a journalist, Luisa Rey, investigates a nuclear power plant in California. In 2012, a publisher, Tim Cavendish, is on the run from a gang of thugs. In 2144, a clone, Sonmi-451, is living in a dystopian future. Finally, in the post-apocalyptic future of 2321, a tribesman, Zachry, is struggling to survive.
The storylines are connected by themes of reincarnation, fate, and the interconnectedness
