Synopsis – What to Expect from “Class”
Class is a 1983 American comedy-drama film directed by Lewis John Carlino and starring Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, John Cusack, and Jacqueline Bisset.
The film follows two high school seniors, Jonathan (Rob Lowe) and Skip (Andrew McCarthy), who are best friends. Jonathan is the son of a wealthy businessman and Skip is from a working class family. Despite their different backgrounds, the two are close and share a friendship that transcends their social statuses.
When Jonathan’s father sends him to a prestigious private school, Jonathan is forced to leave Skip behind. At the new school, Jonathan is immediately taken under the wing of the wealthy and popular students, including the beautiful and sophisticated Ellen (Jacqueline Bisset).
However, Jonathan is soon torn between his loyalty to Skip and his desire to fit in with his new friends. As his relationship with Ellen deepens, Jonathan begins to realize that he must choose between the two worlds he inhabits.
Throughout the course of the film, Jonathan is forced to confront his own privilege and confront his feelings of guilt and loyalty. In the end, Jonathan must decide what is more important to him: fitting in with the wealthy and popular crowd or staying true to his friend Skip.
