Synopsis – What to Expect from “Citizen X”
Citizen X is a 1995 drama-thriller film based on the true story of the investigation of a series of gruesome serial murders in the Soviet Union in the 1980s. The film follows the story of a dedicated investigator, Viktor Burakov (Stephen Rea), who is assigned to the case, and his team of detectives as they try to uncover the identity of the killer, who is known as “The Citizen X”.
The investigation begins when a woman’s body is discovered in a forest near Moscow. Burakov and his team soon realize that the woman was a victim of a serial killer, and the team begins to investigate the case. As they delve deeper into the investigation, they discover that there have been many other victims over the years, all of whom have been brutally murdered.
The team soon discovers that the killer is a former political prisoner, Andrei Chikatilo (Donald Sutherland). Chikatilo had been imprisoned for political crimes during the Stalin era, and after his release, he became a serial killer.
As the investigation progresses, Burakov and his team slowly piece together the evidence to identify Chikatilo as the killer. However, the Soviet authorities refuse to believe that the killer is a former political prisoner, and they attempt to cover-up the truth.
Burakov and his team continue to investigate the case, and eventually, they find enough evidence to arrest Chikatilo and bring
