Synopsis – What to Expect from “Chéri”
Chéri is a romantic drama set in early 20th century Paris. The movie follows the story of Chéri (Rupert Friend), a young man in his late twenties who is the son of a courtesan. His mother, Lea (Michelle Pfeiffer), is a renowned courtesan who has been taking care of Chéri since he was a young boy.
Chéri is content with his life and his relationship with his mother until he meets Edmée (Kathy Bates), a wealthy older woman who is a friend of his mother’s. Edmée takes a liking to Chéri and offers him a life of luxury and pleasure. Chéri, taken by the offer, agrees to become Edmée’s lover.
Chéri and Edmée soon develop a deep and passionate relationship. Chéri finds himself in a strange new world of wealth and luxury, and he discovers a side of himself that he never knew existed. While their relationship grows, Chéri begins to realize that Edmée’s love for him is not the same as his love for her.
Meanwhile, Chéri’s mother is distraught over the situation. She knows that her son is not ready for a relationship with a woman of Edmée’s age and experience. She tries to warn Chéri of the consequences of his actions, but he refuses to listen.
